Who is Gabriel Marcel? He is a French Philosopher, music critic, leading Christian ,play wright and existentialist Laure Meyer died when he was young and he was brouht up by his father Henry Marcel and she aunt. He described mens place in the world in term of such a fundamentalhuman experience as a love, hope, fidelity, relationship, and faith. He was also interested in life religios dimension and was considerd the First french existentialist philosopher..He is born in December seven 1889 in Paris France,he died on October eight 1889 in Paris France in He was raised primary by his mpther’s sister whom his father mariied two years after Laures passing and thought Anuntie loved her nepherwand gabe him the best formal education Gabriel loathed the scupture of classroom and became excited about the intellectual life only after entiring Sorbanne from which he graduated in 1910.
He’s one famous philosophy is Theistic Extentialism is commonly recognized for its view that life’s experience ated and that close or intimate relationship with others should be avoided. There is three parts first is “On the Intoland interaction are meaningless. Many existentialist thinkers are led to conclude that life is only something to be tolerogical Mystery”gives the main oulines of Marcels own thinking. The second one is “Existence and human freedom” offers a critical discussion of the work of Jean Paul Sarte. And Last is “Testimony and Existentialism” gives Marcel own perspective on existentialsm. These three essays also appera in a chronological order, since Marcel wrote theme in 1993 , january of 1946 , and February of 1946 respectively. A fourth short essay in Autobiographical piece, “An essay in Autobiography,” published in 1947 in a collection of writings devoted to Marcels work appears at the end. Thus the fout essay can br taken as respresenting the development of Gabriel Marcel’s thought and as his response to existentialist philosophy in its heyday in the late 1940’s. On the Ontologogical Mystery poses a distinction between problems and Mysteries. Problems are questions that are at least in theory, resolvable, However, the ontological, whick Marcel defines as the sense of neing, in not a problem, but a mystery. Connected to the mystery of the sense of the presence of things and of something beyond oneself. Modern life, with its abstraction in problems and it the technical means to solve problems tends to overlook being and presence. The fascination with technology, in particular, tends to involve human being in a pride in their own control. Marcel suggest an association between the ontological mystery and Christianity particularyly Catholicism. The sense of presense, for example, can be understood as the religious experience of the Eucharist. However, Marcel maintains the openness to the irreducible fullness of existence may entail Christianity for those who live within the historical traditional of Christianity. The “theistic existentialism” of the French Chatolic philosopher Gabriel Marcel is too little known in the English speaking parts of the world, and too often philosophy of Sarte, to which it is in many respects diametrically opposed. Marcel preferred to call his thought “Neo Socratic” to avoid this confusion. Marcel Strove for continuity in his philosophy. He developed his theme of the priority to existence over abstraction for instance from the cogitop of Descartes. And although his critique of idealism and his defense of faith resemble Kierkegaard’s criticism of Hegel Marcel denies tht the faith is an irrational leap or that the idividual stand alone in his faith. This volume is the first comprehesive study of Marcel’s thoughts. The variety and quality of the critical essays, as well as the immediacy of Marcel’s own autobiography and replies make this volume a major in religious and cultural as well as philosophical thought.
For me this philosophy Existentialism of Gabriel Marcel is applicable now a days. Because it help us to understand our religiousness and commitment for him. It is also about the modern life, how this theory will involve human beings to make their own move as they move forward for them to live for example Catholic we can easy understand the word of God because of Existentialism. And think this philosophy trying to say that don’t loss faith in God even tho there is a problems in life, Don’t have work, calamity, or War. God’s have plan in our life. So don’t give up in straggles in l
